Hands-on with the DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II Watch

Dive watch specialist DOXA arrives with their first release of 2023 just a week before the highly anticipated Watches & Wonders event begins. The new DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II follows on from the success of the original Sub 200 C-Graph launched in 2020 but reveals a more contemporary 42mm-sized stainless steel case, a steel or ceramic insert shark-tooth bezel, and the six famous dial colours with a new luminous sunray finish.

As it stands, the DOXA Sub 200 collection is the brand’s most distinctive and accessible range of dive watches. The time-only DOXA Sub 200 in particular, with its robust cushion-shaped cases, funky dial colours, and Swiss made automatic winding movements have become the epitome of a no-nonsense, well-designed and fairly priced dive instrument. A few months after the release of the time-only DOXA Sub 200, the Swiss manufacturer launched the DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph which was as equally accessible in both design and price as its predecessor but delivered a new tri-compax mechanical self-winding chronograph. These watches were fairly large in size, at 45mm and equipped with smooth coloured dials and coloured bezels. For today’s release, the 2023 DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II, all that has changed….

For the many of us that prefer wristwatches under 43mm, the greatest update to the new DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II is its case size. Now measuring in at 42mm in diameter, the 316L stainless steel case feels considerably more compact on the wrist, still beautifully streamline with integrated lugs, a height of 15.85mm and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 46mm. We’re also promised the same 200 metre water resistant rating, as the DOXA Sub 200’s name suggests assisted by a solid screw down case back and a screw-down winding crown. There’s also domed sapphire crystal glass above the dial and a pair of pump-style chronograph pushers.

Another evolution of the DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II watch can be spotted on the bezel. Before, the unidirectional rotating bezels all had coloured sapphire inserts whereas now, the many of the 2023 designs have bezel inserts made from steel to blend in with the case. The DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II watches with yellow, orange and turquoise dials elect brushed steel inserts with a black printed diving scale while the black and dark blue displays copy their dial colour onto a ceramic insert with a white scale. Finally, the silver DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II watch can be ordered with a white ceramic or brushed steel insert. The bezels also have shark-tooth detailing for easy grip while diving.

DOXA launches the new Sub 200 C-Graph II watches in its six signature dial colours but instead swaps out the previous matte finish for a gorgeous metallic radial sunray pattern. As always, the DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II watch is named after its dial: Professional (orange), Sharkhunter (black), Searambler (silver), Caribbean (blue), Divingstar (yellow), and Aquamarine (turquoise). The overall layout of the dials remains the same, with three chronograph registers placed at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock for the 30 minutes, 12 hours and small seconds adorned in snailed decoration. All of the hardware on the dial, including the counter hands and hour markers, are finished with Superluminova and we’re pleased to say there’s still no date window in sight.

The very same movement used to power the previous generation returns within the DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II watch. The Sellita SW510 automatic winding chronograph movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and promises a power reserve of 48 hours and a total of 27 jewels. The DOXA Sub 200 C-Graph II is available on a choice of two straps: a “beads of rice” stainless steel bracelet or a FKM rubber strap that is coloured in the same hue as its dial. The steel bracelet closes by a folding buckle with an integrated wetsuit extension while the rubber bands opt for classic stainless steel pin buckles.
